The complex of medieval buildings is set into a landscape of great natural beauty, surrounded by towering cliffs at the entrance to the Azat Valley.

* 10-13세기 아르메니아에서 발달했던 교회건축의 훌륭한 사례임
* 비잔틴 교회 건축양식과 지역 고유의 전통적 건축스타일 요소를 혼합한 독특한 건축양식을 보여줌.

* These two Byzantine monasteries in the Tumanian region from the period of prosperity during the Kiurikian dynasty (10th to 13th century) were important centres of learning. Sanahin was renown for its school of illuminators and calligraphers. The two monastic complexes represent the highest flowering of Armenian religious architecture, whose unique style developed from a blending of elements of Byzantine ecclesiastical architecture and the traditional vernacular architecture of the Caucasian region.

* Preserved by its long isolation, the Upper Svaneti region of the Caucasus is an exceptional example of mountain scenery with medieval-type villages and tower-houses. The village of Chazhashi still has more than 200 of these very unusual houses, which were used both as dwellings and as defence posts against the invaders who plagued the region.

바그라티 성당과 겔라티 수도원 - 그루지아

- Bagrati Cathedral & Gelati Monastery, Georgia
*  이 성당은 통일 그루지아의 초대 국왕인 바그라트 3세의 이름을 따서 명명된 것으로 10세기말에 공사를 시작, 11세기초에 완공된 건축물이고 겔라티 수도원은 12-17세기에 걸쳐 건립되었고 풍부한 모자이크와 벽화가 잘 보존되어 있다.
* The construction of Bagrati Cathedral, named after Bagrat III, the first king of united Georgia, started at the end of the 10th century and was completed in the early years of the 11th century. Although partly destroyed by the Turks in 1691, its ruins still lie in the centre of Kutaisi. The Gelati Monastery, whose main buildings were erected between the 12th and 17th centuries, is a well-preserved complex, with wonderful mosaics and wall paintings. The cathedral and monastery represent the flowering of medieval architecture in Georgia.
